Karlie Jaye Wyman

Sculptor and Co-owner at Sean Wyman Art LLC

Terrebonne, OR

Just like with many young women, horses became an amazing fascination during childhood. Every spare moment was dedicated to learning more about them, drawing their likeness, imitating them on the playground, and eventually to riding and caring for them. Since then, equines have been a pivotal and driving force. This was Karlie’s first artistic calling--riding in cadence and harmony with the horse, performing the exacting maneuvers of dressage and aerial feats of jumping. And good riding truly is a living art to behold!

When Sean (a photographer at the time) entered the picture, so did a deeper appreciation for art. After he took up ceramics, one night waiting for him to finish up, she found herself playing with a bit of clay. It is no surprise that soon a figure came to life out of that clay, a horse emerging from the lump. A little pinching and pulling and soon it was a full bust.

Ever since, working with clay has become a passion, attempting to capture the grace, spontaneity and power (and sometimes even comedy) of the equine form into ceramic sculptures. The goal is to recreate not just the physical likeness of the animals, but more importantly a piece of their personality.
